September 1, 2003 CAMBRIDGE, MA -- Boston Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck, and Celtics VP Operations and Information Daryl Morey (Sloan MBA '00) will be speaking at Sloan on September 18, 2003. The event is coordinated by EMS and the Sloan Venture Capital and Private Equity Club. Mr. Grousbeck assumed his new role as Managing Partner and Chief Executive Officer of the Celtics upon closing of the acquisition on December 31, 2002. He organized the buying group and serves as the principal owner and NBA Governor under League rules. Previously, Mr. Grousbeck was one of six General Partners of Highland Capital Partners managing $1.8 billion in venture capital funds for investors such as Harvard, Yale and Princeton. Prior to joining Highland Capital Partners in 1995, Mr. Grousbeck was founder and president of MedWise, a start-up consumer medical information and research company. In addition to starting MedWise, he was also director of planning and development at Glycomed, a biotechnology company in California. Mr. Morey assumed his new role as VP Operations and Information of the Celtics upon closing of the acquisition. He led the due diligence process for the new Celtics ownership group as a Principal consultant of The Parthenon Group, a strategy consulting firm. Key activities as Parthenon's CKO and lead sports consultant included leading the due diligence for the Joe O'Donnell/Steve Karp Boston Red Sox acquisition team and developing a new web hosting and design service offering to the legal market that has grown to a $20 million business in 2 years. In addition to Parthenon, he has been a statistical consultant for STATS, Inc., the leading supplier of sports statistics, where he projected the future seasons and careers of major and minor league players. Mr. Morey was also a technology lead at The MITRE Corporation on their intranet project, which served over 5000 employees and received a CIO enterprise value award. |
